As an O’Hara resident and college student attending Pitt, I spent all four years as a summer employee at the Authority. It was an awesome job. Some of the duties I performed alongside the regular crew were fixing water breaks, yard restoration, grass cutting, painting hydrants and preventive maintenance. I made a lot of money due to the abundant overtime available. The crew were very friendly and showed me exactly how to perform all the jobs. Several years later I was hired full time at the Authority and have been a Treatment Plant Operator, Operations Supervisor, Water Quality Supervisor and now Technology Supervisor. The summer job turned into a 33-year career! Don K.
As a high school student athlete, I wanted to get a summer job that consisted of outside work. Knowing nothing about the industry, I got a job at the Fox Chapel Authority. I spent my summers fixing water main breaks, doing restoration from those breaks, laying new water line, painting and fixing hydrants, among many other jobs that provide a service to the community. The members of the crew were always very welcoming and helpful throughout. My summer employment led to a full-time job in the crew, and while working full-time I was able to get my BA from Slippery Rock University. Now I am currently the Distribution Supervisor at Fox Chapel Authority. A 22-year career all made possible by working part time in the summers. Ryan V.
